(99-22)  FLIPPIN - STAMPS - JACKSON - LEWIS:
Seeking information about the children of Thomas and Rhoda (STAMPS) FLIPPIN.
I am researching the descendants of Charles W. FLIPPIN and Nancy S. JACKSON.  Charles was born Aug 1823 in VA (per 1900 census) and married Nancy 19 Dec 1846 in Pittsylvania Co.  Nancy was the daughter of William JACKSON and Martha BLAKENSHIP of Pittsylvania Co.  Charles died after Apr 1900.  Their children were:  William T. (b. Dec 1848 VA; m. Betty P.), John (c1850 VA), Joshua Hightower (Mar 1856 Pittsylvania Co., VA), and Harriet B. (c1855 VA; m. James T. SCHOFIELD 12 Jan 1870 Pittsylvania Co., VA).  Joshua H. FLIPPIN married Melissa Anne LEWIS 17 Jan 1894 in Pittsylvania Co., VA.  They were said to be cousins in the STAMPS family genealogy and named one son, Charles Stamps FLIPPIN.
Charles W. FLIPPIN was enumerated on the 1850 Pittsylvania Co., VA census as a millwright and an owner of 14 slaves.  Also in his household were two William FLIPPINs, age 21 and 20.  I believe the first was his son, possibly age 2 years, and the other was listed as a Moulder.  In the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census of Pittsylvania Co., VA, the occupation of Charles W. FLIPPIN was a Machinist.
After the surrender of Lee at Appomattox, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace at Danville for Pittsylvania Co. by the Union Military authorities.  He requested amnesty as a supporter of the Southern cause as a provider of supplies.  In this request (1865) he gives his age as forty-two, which agrees with the 1900 census data.
Would like any additional information on the above FLIPPINs.

(99-23)  FLIPPEN - NEWMAN:
Ruth FLIPPEN was born about 1810 in VA and married James NEWMAN (b. c1809).  Their children were:  Joseph (b. 1838), Frances (1840), Robert (1841), Mary (1843), Lucy (1845), Connie (1847), Ruth (1849), James Madison (4 Aug 1851 Patrick Co., VA; my line), Elizabeth (1853), and Samuel (1857).  I believe James and Ruth lived in the area around Stuart, VA, probably Vesta which is northwest of Stuart.  If anyone can help with the FLIPPENs and/or NEWMANs, I will gladly share.
