An Unidentified Flipp*n Family

Alfred W. FLIPPEN was born circa 1808 and married Minerva T. G. STAPLES on 3 Jul 1834 in Albemarle Co., VA.  Minerva was born circa 1814.  They were on the 1850 Appomatox Co., VA census with Alfred as a merchant. 

Known children of Alfred W. and Minerva T. G. (STAPLES) FLIPPEN:
1.  Eugene FLIPPEN (b. c1835)
2.  Helen Cora FLIPPEN (17 Jul 1837 - 1877) was listed as a 9 year old on
the 1850 census when she should be about 13.  She married on 21 Dec 1854
in Appomatox Co. to William Edward WINGFIELD.  Almost immediately after
their marriage, the newlyweds set out for TX, accompanied by his widowed
mother, Eliza Lewis WINGFIELD, and several of her minor children.  The
children of William and Helen were:  Charles Irwin (21 Apr 1855 - 8 Jul 1890),
Minerva Kate (12 Feb 1856 - 22 Aug 1940), Willie (5 May 1858 - 12 Sep
1864), Lynn Holmes (17 Dec 1860 - ?), Anna Bell (24 Aug 1862 - ?), Alfred
Flippin (5 Oct 1866 - 21 Nov 1960), John Lewis (5 Oct 1866 - d. as an infant),
May Octavia (2 Oct 1868 - ?), Ada (27 Sep 1871 - ?), Arthur Lee (27 Sep
1871 - ?), Helen (1877 - 1877), and Cora (1877 - 1877).  Helen Cora and her
twins, Helen and Cora, died shortly after their birth.  The family lived in the
areas of Henderson, Crockett, Augusta, and Middleton in TX.  Alfred Flippin
WINGFIELD married first to Maggie COX (d. 1904) and second to Sally
Louise O'TOOLE (b. 28 Apr 1888) 1905 in Centerville, TX.

5.  Alfred FLIPPEN (b. c1847)
6.  James FLIPPEN (b. c1849)

I am a descendant of Alfred W. and Minerva (Staples) Flippin.  Their son Alfred Armstead Flippin was my great-grandfather.  The information I have comes from the 1850 and 1860 Appomattox Co., VA census and other family documents.

The 1860 census lists their children as:
1.  Eugene                   23   Carpenter
2.  Marion T.                19   Apprentice cabinet maker
3.  Alfred A.                 15
4.  John H. P.              14
5.  Junius G.                11
6.  Willie A.                    6   (daughter)
Helen had married in 1854.

3.  Alfred Armstead Flippin [c1845 - 28 Mar 1926] married Sarah Jane WIKEL [? - 21 Feb 1920] on 4 Jan 1872 in Summers Co., WV.  Their children were:
a.  George Emanuel   [4 Apr 1874 - ?]
b.  William Alfred        [12 Oct 1875 - ?]
c.  Thomas Junius      [30 Aug 1877 - 22 May 1880]
d.  Mary Frances        [1 Feb 1879 - 1950]
e.  Iverson Porter       [28 Aug 1881 - 1965]
f.   Elizabeth Mahala [12 Jun 1883 - 28 Jan 1907]
g.  Kenneth Davenport  [12 May 1886 - 7 Apr 1887]

My grandfather was Iverson Porter Flippin.  Most of Alfred Armstead's descedants remain in West Virginia.  Only Iverson P. and George E. had children."
